Dmytri Hryciw is interested in photography and its relationship to (or status as) art. Using various mediums, his work addresses concepts concerning photographic practices and the role of photography in visual culture. Performance is often at the core of his work, drawing inspiration from artists such as Ed Ruscha, Dan Graham, and Sophie Calle.

Dmytri received his B.F.A. in Visual Art from the University of Michigan and his M.F.A. in Photography, Video, and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He has worked as a photojournalist, editorial/commercial photographer, wedding photographer, sports photographer, and photography instructor, often finding real estate advertising, retail electronics showrooms, and dads with multi-thousand-dollar telephoto lenses at middle-school soccer games the most compelling subjects for his own exploration of photography.
